Gunmen kill tens after targeting the Iraqi city of Najaf
At least two car bombs targeted a security checkpoint in the Iraqi Shiite town of al-Najaf, Aljazeera reported. 

People in the area told local media that several gunmen were driving cars in the market of Shaalan in Qadisyia town opened fire on people before detonating themselves in the security checkpoint, Kurdistan24 reported and added that it could not verify the accuracy of the story.

Five gunmen if the "Islamic State" with four cars headed towards one of the Shiite checkpoints on the outskirts of Meshkha in the south of the Najaf. They killed the members of the first checkpoint, then they continued their assault to reach to the heart of the town. They opened fire on people inside one of the marketplaces before blowing themselves up to kill at least 100 people, ISIS-affiliated news agency, Amaq, said.  

Iraqi officials say a pair of suicide bombers detonated their explosives belts at a checkpoint south of Baghdad, killing nine people, including four members of the security forces.

The attack came one day after two suicide bombers killed at least 28 people at a Baghdad market. Baghdad has seen near-daily attacks blamed on ISIS since 2003.
