Assad regime attacks Daraa in violation of ceasefire

Less than 48 hours after the ceasefire took effect, Iran-backed militias and Assad terrorists launched Saturday an attack on the hills of al-Alaqiyyat and Antar in Daraa northwestern countryside, according to Orient News correspondent. 

Yusuf al-Mirie, commander of Division 46 of the FSA told Orient News that “Assad regime backed by Shiite militias tried to seize the two hills after heavy artillery shelling, but our fighters were able to repel the attack.”

When asked about the ceasefire, al-Mira’i said the position of his group is the same as the High Negotiating Committee; they are not against the ceasefire deal as long as it does not contradict the aims of the revolution and the terms of the Geneva agreement. However, he added that the Assad regime could not be trusted especially after the attacks today. 

A countrywide ceasefire in Syria went into effect at midnight on Thursday (2200GMT), after Turkey, Russia and opposition fighting factions reached a deal in the Turkish capital Ankara. Turkey and Russia will act as guarantor countries for the implementation of the ceasefire.
