Palestine’s two-state solution in jeopardy - Kerry
Hope for peace with Palestinians and Israel’s future as a democracy are both threatened by Israel’s settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank, John Kerry has said in a speech.

US secretary of state was concerned in his speech on Wednesday in regards to achieving peace between Israel and Palestine.

"The settler agenda is defining the future in Israel. And their stated purpose is clear: They believe in one state: Greater Israel," Kerry said.

"If the choice is one state, Israel can either be Jewish or democratic, it cannot be both, and it won’t ever really be at peace," he added.

Kerry’s speech in Washington comes only days after the US abstained from a UN vote to halt all Israeli settlement activities in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.

The US’ abstention from using its veto at the Security Council enabled the adoption of the first UN resolution since 1979 to condemn Israel over its settlements policy.

US President-elect Donald Trump, who had called on the US to use veto on the UN vote, told reporters that Israel is being treated "very, very unfairly".

He refused to directly answer a question about whether Israel should stop building settlements, saying he is "very, very strong on Israel".
