New opposition alliance formed to defend Damascus countryside
Opposition fighters in Damascus countryside have formed a new alliance to unify efforts and defend the besieged areas from Assad regime attacks and forced displacements.

The new Joint Defense Alliance was declared in a statement which was signed by the towns of al-Qaboon, eastern Qalamoon, Wadi Barada, and Mount Hermon (Beit Jenn assembly).

The statement criticized the silence of the international community on the atrocities committed by Assad regime especially the forced displacement of the people of Daraya, al-Mouadhamyah, al-Haamah, Qudsayya, al-Tal, and Khan al-Sheeh. It also called on the international community to intervene to stop the crime of forced displacement and lift sieges by Assad regime and Iran-backed militias on Damascus countryside.

The statement added that in light of the barbaric attack on the villages of Wadi Barada which aims to forcibly displace local people, the new alliance declares a unified military leadership and will resume fighting on all fronts in support of the areas under attack.

The statement invited all besieged areas in Damascus countryside to join the alliance in order to protect the people in besieged areas from forced displacement.

Assad and Hezbollah terrorists have been waging a fierce attack on the villages of Wadi Barada since last week. The bombing and shelling of the area killed many and caused considerable damage to property including the vital Ain al-Fiejah spring facility which provides much of Damascus and its countryside with drinking water.
