UN chief tells world powers to end Syria hell at UNSC Syria tallks
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday told UNSC members they ought to use their influence "to negotiate a way out of the hell in which they are trapped" following two disastrous days since the end of the US-Russia brokered truce.

Moon renewed his call to refer the Syrian file to the International Criminal Court at the Hague pointing out to the difficulty of launching a transitional period in the country amid the Syrian opposition’s insistence on Assad’s leaving of power.

The UN chief reiterated the necessity of restoring the truce considering the attack on the UN aid convoy, two days ago, a reason behind suspending the works of the international organization in Syria.

Russia and the US remain still locked in confrontation over the bombing of a UN aid convoy in Aleppo on Monday evening which killed 20 people - an attack the US on Wednesday blamed directly on Russian forces.

The UNSC meeting also came after reports of intense bombing of Syria’s second city, and the deaths of four medical workers in an attack that destroyed two ambulances in Aleppo southern countryside’s Khan Toman.

The US secretary of state, John Kerry, and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov were both to address the council meeting, ahead of more talks on salvaging the truce - which collapsed on Monday - later this week

Russia and the United States co-sponsored the ceasefire plan, with Kerry warning it could be the "last chance" to try to end Syria’s war, which has killed more than  600,000 people in five years.
