Kerry: Humanitarian aid is on its way to besieged parts of Syria
Humanitarian aid has begun to flow to besieged areas in Syria, Secretary of State John Kerry said on Monday morning, a rare sign of progress after the agreement he struck to reduce violence in that country appeared to be on the brink of collapse.

“Did pretty well last night; trucks are moving today to maybe eight locations or more,” Mr. Kerry said at the start of a meeting with President Béji Caïd Essebsi of Tunisia. “So we’ll see where we are today. Let’s wait.”

Kerry also said that the week-old truce in Syria brokered by the U.S. and Russia was "holding but fragile" despite persistent violence and a lack of aid deliveries to besieged communities, AP reported.

On Sunday, Mr. Kerry accused Assad regime of blocking the delivery of aid to Aleppo. “The humanitarian assistance is supposed to be flowing,” Mr. Kerry said in an interview with CNN. “The regime once again is blocking it. So Russia’s client, Russia’s supported friend, is the single biggest blockade to the ability to move forward here.”

Mr. Kerry is in New York along with leaders and foreign ministers for the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly. On Tuesday, he will lead a meeting of the International Syria Support Group, which is trying to reduce violence and reach a political solution in Syria. That group includes the United States, Russia, China, Turkey, and Western European and Arab nations.
