Israeli discomfort of serious repercussions of Euphrates shield
Majed Azzam writes in his latest article in Orient Net Arabic that “Israel did not hide its irritation from the joint Turkish-Syrian Euphrates shield operation which was launched last month to secure the border process, to clear the area of terrorists and return the refugees to their towns and villages from which they were displaced.”

The writer explains how an Israeli TV channel reported the news of the Euphrates shield with great dismay and concern since it destroyed the idea of Kurdish entity in northern Syria and with it, the idea of partitioning Syria which Israel is an extreme supporter.

In addition, the writer explains, a Kurdish separatist entity helps Israel at securing a potential ally in Syria with or without Assad to counter Islamic movements hostile to the Zionist entity.

The writer then states that “there are many reasons behind the Israeli discomfort of the Euphrates shield:”

First, the Turkish forces entered the line of the Syrian issue with massive force, adding to Tel Aviv’s obvious discomfort to Turkey’s policy in the region, the writer argues. In addition, the Euphrates shield operation aims at restoring stability and security in Syria, contrary to what Israel desires.

Second, the Euphrates shield operation was successful within its very first hours which created an even bigger threat to Israel because having a Kurdish entity in northern Syria could have also weakened Turkey and isolated it from its Arab Islamic depth, the writer states.

In addition, the writer explains that having a geographically connected US-allied Kurdish entity or territory overlooking the Mediterranean is also a powerful potential ally for Israel since it embodies its goal of ethnically and ideologically dismembering the region, weakening its powerful central countries and promoting the concept of alliance of minorities – which was called for by Israel for a long time.

Furthermore, the return of the Free Syrian Army as a central force in the fighting scene brings Israel great discomfort since this fighting force has repeatedly expressed its collective Syrian opinion which is anti-Israel, in complete opposition of Assad and aims at uniting Syria entirely, falling in complete opposition to the desires of Israel in Syria and the region, the writer concludes.
