Third phase of Operation Euphrates Shied launched
The third phase of the Operation Euphrates Shied was launched today aiming at taking control of new areas in Aleppo northern countryside from ISIS, Colonel Ahmad Ottoman, the commander of the Free Syrian Army’s Sultan Murad Brigade said.

Colonel Ottoman exclusively confirmed to Orient Net that Operation Euphrates Shield aims at taking control of al-Bab, ISIS’ main and strategic stronghold then heading to Manbij and its countryside.

He also said that the group of Euphrates operation targeted today ISIS’ positions in the countryside of al-Ra’i on the axis of Tata Homs and the axis of Bragheida which were captured after hours of fierce clashes with the extremists of ISIS.

In respect to the US Marines’ role in the operation, the commander said that an agreement was reached between the two parties; a number of the US Marines would participate from the back ranks to coordinate targets of the US-led-coalition’s warplanes. He emphasized that the direct contacts were agreed to be held only with the Turkish troops and not with the US Marines.

In a related development, Ahrar al-Sharkiyya, an opposition fighting group in north Syria, suspended on Friday its participation in the Operation Euphrates Shield following the presence of US soldiers in the operation. The group published video footage in which they said that they would never fight with the US soldiers, who support the PKK, side by side in battles of Aleppo northern countryside.
