Sidra survived Assad barrel bomb; her parents and one bother didn’t
While 6-year-old Sidra was watching her favorite cartoons along with her younger brothers Abdulqader and Saleh in their home located in the opposition-held part of Aleppo, she heard a very loud noise of a roaring warplane whizzing over their area.

Sidra felt very scared and rushed to her father in the next room. He took her hand in his and told her not to panic since he was with them; however, soon after her father finished his comforting words, a barrel bomb fell on their house reducing it into a pile of rubble.

Neighbors rushed to the stricken house in an attempt to find any survivors but the whole place was overwhelmingly devastated. An hour later, Sidra was recovered along with her younger brother Abdulqader by Syrian Free Civil Defense team known by “White Helmets” while the rest of her family, unfortunately, couldn’t make it.

Sidra told Aleppo Today correspondent about the fear she felt when she found that her father and mother were lying motionless in the other corner of the room, and that she called them many times but they didn’t answer back. Her elder brother Hussein was covered with blood and dust. She touched his hand but it was very cold.

After rescuing the two remaining kids they were taken to a field hospital to get necessary treatment. Few days later, they were sent back to their demolished house but apparently there was nobody to take care of them.

Sidra and Abdulqader moved to their aunt’s where they live now.

They miss their dead parents and brothers a lot. Sidra says that she often remembers them whenever she and Abdulqader visit their devastated house to collect their things.

Sidra will never forget that frightening moment when the warplane roared over their house and wishes she could hide her father and mother in her corner to save their lives, as she told Aleppo Today correspondent; however, next time when a warplane roars in the sky, she will hide in a safer place with her brother.

She says that she is not afraid of warplanes anymore because her brother Abdulqader told her that he will never give her up until he dies and she believes that he will do so.
