US State Department spokesman Mark Toner said on Tuesday that the cessation of hostilities in Syria, which went into effect on Monday, September 12, is holding, Reuters reported.

"We have seen ... some reports of sporadic violence but thus far the arrangement as a whole seems to be holding and the violence ... is lower in comparison to previous days and weeks," Toner told a briefing.

It is worthy to remind that the US-Russian brokered ceasefire or cessation of hostilities deal was agreed to on Friday, and aims at delivering humanitarian and food aid to the besieged opposition-held neighborhoods in eastern Aleppo and other besieged areas across Syria.
