Stuck in Castello?

Stuck in Castello?
Rajeh Khoury – in his article in Annahar – begins by stating that all of the talks that took place recently regarding Syria were in vainas none generated practical efforts that could permanently end the destruction and killing in Syria.

The writer then explains that it would have been awfully bad for the Americans and the Russians to appear stuck in Aleppo’s Castello road.

Analyzing Obama’s and Putin’s latest statements to understand what went on between them is near to impossible. Khoury explains that Putin did not clarify where he found reasons to believe that the agreement on Syria will be reached within days, but then the writer points out that Russia’s assumptions can be true only if a joint action and an agreement took place under the table to push the region and Muslims to more wars and tragedies.

The writer then asks what Obama meant when he stated that “the negotiations were difficult but positive,” wondering who it was positive for!

Further, the writer argues that when Obama tells us that “they were not able to overcome the differences,” then where does Putin come with his own optimistic reasons for the agreement from?

“The White House did not talk of solutions… but only of minimizing the violence and urgently reaching some sort of agreement due to the dire humanitarian situation and that if no agreement was reached, then it will pull out,” the writer states, adding that the Russian foreign ministry’s reply: “No need for such dramatic statements!”

Such back-and-forth statements between the two superpowers led the writer to wonder: “Are they actually stuck in Castello?”
