500 Syrian families live in dilapidated buildings in Sidon- Lebanese MoH
Lebanese ministry of health has announced that about 500 Syrian refugee families are living in a dilapidated compound in Sidon city, to the south of Lebanon.

“After being commissioned by Minister of Health, Wael Abou Faour, observers from the ministry examined al-Aqbiyeh commercial compound, where about 500 Syrian refugee families live. The buildings of the compound were found dilapidated,” Lebanese ministry of health said in a statement.

The compound is made up of a central grand building and a number of big industrial warehouses which were used to store frozen food supplies before the compound was abandoned. It was later inhabited by Syrian refugees, who suffer bad health conditions because of moisture and overcrowdedness, according to local sources.

On its part, sources from Lebanese ministry of health explained that “during the regular check on the safety of the Syrian residents, it was discovered that the foundations of the compound are worn out and cracking. Therefore, a statement has been issued to urge the concerned parties to act.”

It is worthy to mention that Syrians in Lebanon live in difficult humanitarian conditions, as rents are high, job opportunities are scarce and assistance, which was provided by the UN, has stopped.
