The grief of Syria’s children on public display
It was an image that would have broken all but the most callous of hearts.

Two young boys wailing and clinging to one another for comfort after learning that their brother had been killed in a bomb attack in Syria.

In what should have been a private moment, the video taken of the grief-stricken boys is just one more example of how devastating Assad’s war against the Syrian people has been on their children.

The heartbreaking footage was released by the Aleppo Media Centre (AMC) - an opposition activist group.

It said the explosion happened near the Neirab neighborhood of Aleppo on Thursday but no further information was available at the time of the video’s release.

In the video, the boys are seen crying and shouting: "Oh the heartache, my brother is gone."

After posting the video on social media, the organization published a disclaimer saying it did not aim to "shock or encourage violence" with the images, but instead wanted to "convey the truth of the Syrian people to the world.”

The video of the devastated young brothers comes in the wake of the haunting image of 5-year-old Omran Daqneesh, sitting bloodied and stunned in the back of an ambulance after being pulled alive from the bombed out rubble of his family’s home, that went viral after being posted to social media.

One of Omran’s brothers also died as a result of the injuries he sustained when the building collapsed.

Dozens of other children have required treatment for injuries sustained in Aleppo as the Assad regime and Russia continue to conduct air strikes on civilian neighborhoods in the war-torn city.
