Residents and opposition fighters prepare to leave Darayya
The committee on coordinating the evacuation of Darayya city in Damascus western countryside reached the city on Friday, Orient News correspondent reported.

A committee from the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) reached the city along with a committee from Assad regime, in preparation to evacuate civilians and opposition fighters from Darayya, Orient Net learned from special sources.

This process is estimated to take about four days—depending on the logistics, according to the same sources.

The first batch will contain 4,700 people, including 700 opposition fighters and 4,000 civilians.

A source in Islam Martyrs Brigade, the biggest operating opposition faction in Daraya, told Orient Net that opposition fighters will head to Idlib using buses belonging to the SARC, while residents of the city will be taken to nearby areas including Qudsayya and Sahnaya.

Activists posted on social media photos of residents visiting the tombs of their children and loved ones before leaving Darayya, fearing never being able to return to the city.

The process of evacuation comes after Assad regime and opposition fighters agreed on a truce on Thursday whereby Assad regime will enter Darayya, while residents and opposition fighters of the city will be allowed safe passage to other areas in Damascus and Idlib.
