Assad siege causes 60% of Yarmouk camp residents to suffer from dire diseases
Medical sources in the blockaded al-Rija district inside Yarmouk camp in southern Damascus confirmed that diseases of various levels of seriousness out broke among civilians, especially children, which raised the percentage of patients to 60%.

Director of the Medical and Surgical Rescue Center in al-Rija, Dr. Riad Idris, said in a video clip on Saturday that “diseases spread in the area, which threatens the lives of the besieged civilians, amid acute shortage of medical supplies inside the center.”

The doctor added that “several diseases spread in the besieged area, including inflammatory bowel, acute gastritis, typhoid fever, and respiratory tract infections.” Most of these diseases, which are attributed to the fact that families are not allowed to bring potable water from outside the district, affect children in the first place.

The director also pointed out that the district is blockaded by the Assad regime “forces” from one side and by ISIS on the other, which places the sick under a heightened risk, noting that children below five year olds are affected in the first place.

“Revolution’s Spring Group” confirmed to Baladi News that humanitarian conditions deteriorated heavily in southern Damascus. Markets and shops lack basic food items as well as baby milk, which aggravates the humanitarian situations inside the camp.
