At least 500 civilians killed by Assad-Russian attacks in Syria within week
At least 500 civilians were killed in a single week by Assad and Russian airstrikes and shelling in many areas of Syria.

Deaths figures released on Saturday by local activists in Syria, documented 508 civilians killed between August 13 and August 19, including 96 children and 73 women.

Most of the deaths occurred in Russian and Assad aerial bombardment across Aleppo, Idlib, Damascus, and Hama, according to activists.

In the northern Syrian city of Aleppo and its suburbs, at least 205 of the total 508 were killed in shelling of the city’s previously-besieged eastern neighborhoods, and in clashes with Assad terrorists in the battle to break the siege. A few deaths were also reported from landmines left by ISIS around the town of Manbij.

"Russia is responding to its military defeats on Aleppo’s fronts after the strong blow that the opposition dealt to Assad terrorists," an activist told Al Jazeera, referring to the breaking of the Aleppo siege.

"The breaking of the city’s siege and the takeover of Assad forts by opposition has also frustrated Assad regime and Russia," he said.

"They have also frantically increased their use of banned weapons - from cluster missiles to white phosphorous and napalm."

Orient News has made many reports in recent days of Assad terrorists using cluster munitions, which are banned by more than 100 countries due to the weapon’s indiscriminate targeting and risks posed to civilians.

Amnesty International accused Russia in December of the last year of using cluster munitions and unguided bombs on civilian areas in Syria in attacks that it says have killed hundreds of civilians in the past few months, the Guardian reported

The report by the human rights watchdog said there has been a surge in reports of cluster munitions dropped in areas targeted by Russia since Moscow formally joined the conflict on 30 September.
