One would wonder about the real implications of the UN resolutions and, considering facts on the ground and witnessing Russia’s crimes and those of Assad killing Syrian civilians, one would also wonder about the value of the UN resolutions when such forces manage them the way they want.
Russia, similar to Assad and his other allies, believes that all Syrians who have been participating in the revolution aiming at ousting Assad and his junta are terrorists and, therefore, Russia believes that is has never violated the UNSC resolutions as if killing Syrians were legalized by the UNSC.
It seems that Russia’s bases in Syria and Russia from which Russia has been targeting Syrian civilians are not enough to keep Assad longer in power. It decided to use Iranian bases to inflect further killing and destruction.
What calls for sarcasm is what Russia’s foreign minister said to justify the use of the Iranian bases:
"These warplanes with the consent of Iran are being used by the Russian air force … at the request of the ‘legal Syrian authorities’."
Lavrov is telling us that Iran consented! What the hell will this mean? Iran is a main aggressive force backing Assad and is a partner if not a perpetrator of most massacres in Syria. Can anyone expect Iran to stop its partners from killing Syrians?
Lavrov also says that this bombardment from the Iranian base is “at the request of the legal Syrian authorities” as if Assad and his regime were legal!
Assad lost legitimacy since the time he decided to direct his weapons against Syrian civilians. He double lost it when he sought the help of foreign forces to help him silence Syrians demanding freedom. Doing this, he sold Syria’s sovereignty.
