Putin; too cunning to be smart
Putin’s last call to the US to coordinate their airstrikes in Syria bears many interpretations. First, Putin wants to shun the fact of being the only killer of Syrians by dragging another super power to share the massacres against Syrians with him.

Secondly, by involving the US, Putin legitimizes the US presence in Syria because Russia was “legally” invited by Assad to target ISIS although it was proved that Russia targeted Assad opposers who may or may not include ISIS bearing in mind that Russia and Assad enjoy ISIS’s proliferation in Syria and benefit from its existence as a pretext or excuse for perpetrating their crimes. Originally, it was because of ISIS that Russia justified its intervention in Syria although Assad regime does not have the right to ask any foreign forces to the Syrian land regardless of the reason behind such an act; this very asking makes Assad and his regime lose legitimacy.

Although Assad has repeatedly said that any force, be it the US or any other, killing Syrians without his permission is illegitimate, Russia has acted on Assad’s behalf even without asking his permission, and called for coordinating airstrikes in Syria.

How come! Does Russia have the right to ask the US, a power whose existence in Syria is illegitimate and violates Syria’s sovereignty, to legally carry out airstrikes in Syria?

It is only because Russia does not care about Assad or Syria’s sovereignty and because Russia has the upper hand in Syria. The US realized the dangers behind such an invitation and immediately declined the offer simply because it is absolutely certain that Russia is not targeting ISIS but only backing Assad and in his attempt to silence Syrians and to re-control the country.

Not in defense of the US and its intentions in Syria as it never acted positively in the Syrian crisis, but at least the US has not targeted Syrians and Syria’s infrastructure the way Russia has been doing.

This is not the first time Russia tries to involve other parties in its crimes. Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said his country is ready to support the Free Syrian Army with air strikes. This really sounds funny, especially when the FSA was not exempted from Russia’s airstrikes.

Again here Russia’s stance carries contradiction; it is in Syria to support Assad and it is fighting against anyone who is opposing him; how come that it asks an opposition faction for cooperation? Again this is one of Putin’s tricks in an endeavour to show the world that he is ready to coordinate with anyone fighting terrorism believing that such a coordination will make him innocent of the blood of Syrians.

"We are ready to give air support to the patriotic opposition, including the so-called Free Syrian Army, but we need to get in contact with the people who will have the authority to represent certain armed groups."

This can be another method Putin is trying to follow; in case he succeeds in coordinating with the opposition, he, as he believes, will be able to direct them according to his plans. The problem with Putin is that he is too clever and his vicious tricks cannot be passed easily. The opposition also rejected Putin’s offer simply because anyone who cooperates with a dictator like Assad cannot be expected to be but more vicious with the hidden implicit intention of destroying the Syrian revolution for the benefit of Assad and his regime.

The Syrian National Coalition, the opposition’s main political body, said "80 percent" of The Russian strikes had hit the Free Syrian Army. It is also believed that most of the remaining 20% had hit other Syrians rather than ISIS. The latter is only a pretext for the continuation of strikes that aim at helping Assad in his war against Syrians. Therefore, Russia is expected to stop bombarding Syrians before asking for any coordination with them or with those who represent them.

Previous secret coordination between the US and Russia was through Israel’s hotline to prevent unintentional collision of their air crafts, according to intelligence officials, who spoke to the Israeli media.

How can Putin who claims that he is after Syria’s sovereignty coordinate, let alone cooperate with other forces seen as illegitimate in Syria? It is expected from someone with such a claim to fight against anyone who trespasses the Syrian land; Putin, however, chose to fight the Syrian people as they are the only threat to him and to his proxy in Damascus.
