UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Stephen O’Brien told Orient Net reporter Halla Barakat on Sunday that everyone should abide by "the international humanitarian law and the refugee law," referring to the EU-Turkey refugee deal.

"Due to our independency and neutrality, we have immunity and to that we do not get into political matters," O’Brien continued.

When asked about the immense amount of aid that had not reached the Syrian refugees displaced in neighboring countries, he answered that we should not be "critical" of one aspect of the whole process because a lot of aid has been delivered to many people displaced near the Syrian border.

"We have contributed strongly to aiding those fleeing the Syrian crisis, however, when the situation is as massive as this, no solution can solve this crisis but a political one," he told Orient net during a press conference held one day earlier to the start of the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul, Turkey.
