Are Assad media telling us that from now on Russia’s national holidays will be celebrated in Syria? Is this a crystal clear confession that Assad turned Syria into a Russian colony?
If Russia treats Syria as an “equal” and if it respects Syria’s sovereignty as Assad always claims, why does not Russia mention, even in passing, any Syrians national event?
Russia is a super power which has its interests in the region and Syria is no more than a tool to implement its policy and to show the world that it is still a super power.
One would wonder if Russia respected Assad’s sovereignty and took his permission before holding this military parade!
Assad, certain of being defeated by Syrians without Russia’s support, makes Russia’s interests his top priority. Assad, by inviting Russia to interfere in Syria, gave it the upper hand in determining Syria’s fate believing that this will make him stay in power for a longer time.
It will not be surprising to attend an Iranian festival very soon in Syria as Iran, similar to Russia, protected the ailing Assad and procrastinated his collapse.
Assad is ready to invite the whole world, to make it occupy Syria, kill Syrians, marginalize Syria’s sovereignty as long as such a world makes him stay in power. For Assad, Syria is no more than the chair he is sitting on and he has shown all kinds of concessions to any power that showed its readiness to muzzle Syrians and make them stop their demands on top of which is ousting him.
