French FM: Syrian crisis is at critical moment
French foreign minister has reiterated that there is a need to “reboot the efforts for peace,” adding that at this juncture the “Syrian crisis is at a critical moment.”

The truce in Syria is “subject of numerous violations by the regime, particularly in Aleppo,” Jean-Marc Ayrault said at the conclusion of the ministerial meeting of key countries in the International Syria Support Group (ISSG) which took place in Paris on Monday.

“In Geneva, during the political negotiations, the regime has shown no willingness to move towards transition,” Ayrault added.

“The mobilization of the international community is therefore essential.

“We will express with our partners our will that the inter-Syrian negotiations can be resumed,” the French foreign minister said.

Ayrault emphasized that the first goal of the meeting is “to silence the guns, except against terrorist groups recognized as such by the United Nations.

“Second objective: implement the obligations under international law to protect civilians.

“Third objective: restart negotiations in order to implement a political transition.”

Ayrault saluted the courage of Riyad Hijab, the general coordinator of the Syrian opposition High Negotiations Committee (HNC).
