Aleppo ceasefire extended for 48 hours
The Assad regime announced late Monday that it had extended the truce in Aleppo and its countryside for 48 hours, according to state media.

The ceasefire would be extended from 0100 local time Tuesday until 2400 on Wednesday, Assad’s agency SANA reported.

Assad’s Airstrikes on a hospital and a refugee camp in opposition-held areas of northern Syria in recent weeks killed an estimated 80 people, causing international outrage; the opposition has no air force.

Opposition negotiators cited the regime’s obstruction of aid deliveries to Daraya and other areas as one of the reasons for suspending their participation in peace talks in Geneva last month.

The statement came as key countries backing the Syrian opposition met in Paris at the invitation of French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault as a recourse to the stalled peace talks, Al Bawaba reported.
