Another Aylan Kurdi, this time on the streets of Aleppo

Another Aylan Kurdi, this time on the streets of Aleppo
The image of a Syrian child killed this month by Assad warplanes in Aleppo, Syria, has once again stoked extreme anger in Syrian and international circles, and made many on social media furious.

Aleppo activists say the boy shown in the image is Jamal al-Ashqar. He was picking berries from a tree nearby his school in Aleppo’s Saleheen neighborhood before being killed by lethal airstrikes launched by Assad bombers.

Jamal’s father told BBC: "I was looking for him when people showed me a photo of a boy whose body had been lying there for three hours and no one could identify him."

"It turned out to be my son," he continued.

Images of Jamal were posted by Baha al-Halabi, an activist involved with the Aleppo Media Center, using the hashtag “Aleppo is burning”.

The image shows a small Syrian child lying dead on Aleppo’s cobblestone streets after 14 airstrikes by Assad’s military targeted the area. 19 civilians were killed – among them Jamal – and dozens of others wounded.

Jamal’s helpless dead body posture in Aleppo highly resembled that one of Aylan Kurdi’s as he was found lying dead on the shores of Turkey.

The image of this little boy, lying dead on the Turkish coastline of the Adriatic Sea, sent shock waves across the world. Similarly, Jamal’s picture went viral, bringing back horrible memories of the innocent Aylan Kurdi.
