Damascus - ِAleppo equation

Damascus - ِAleppo equation
Whenever the horrific atrocities committed by Assad regime and its allies take place, Secretary of State John Kerry shows on media and starts threatening Assad with negative repercussions.

Kerry was pushed to end his silence and to say some verbiage against Assad trying at the same time to justify some massacres by speaking about the overlap between locations of Syrian opposition and Al-Nusra Front ignoring that the regime’s brutal attack against the oldest city in the world has mostly targeted civilians.

Whenever the indifference of Assad regime and its allies about killing more innocent people provoked an international reaction and worries about new waves of migrants and refugees that would flow to the Turkish borders, Russia would react to Obama’s administration embarrassment by playing the tune of partnership and reaching a new ceasefire agreement.

Putin has become convinced that Obama will not react or take any decisions. The game will go on after absorbing the impacts of any new massacre. Moscow would claim that it is after a political solution while in return Assad regime keeps maneuvering and refusing any political transition.

Regime’s refusal is usually accompanied by military offensive and growing flow of Iranian militias with more pressures are practiced on the Syrian opposition to accept Assad remain in power.

Despite the fact that the phrase “violation of the ceasefire” has become ridiculous, Kerry’s threats about a time limit given to Assad regime to present a new constitution-set on the first of August- are even more ridiculous since waiting till next August simply means that Assad will be burning Aleppo and level it to the ground till that time.

However, depending on Washington’s “Plan B” which speaks about more support with weapons is totally unreal. Since Moscow and its allies- Assad and Iran- realized that, it would be better for Syrian opposition to look for other options in terms of peace negotiations.

The equation “Damascus vs. Aleppo” or transporting sophisticated weapons to the opposition to defend themselves against airstrikes and open new fronts with Assad and Iran have become real choices that should be considered by countries that Russia is trying to cancel their roles in the region.
