HNC headed by Hijab meet de Mistura
Sources close to Orient Net said that Syrian opposition High Negotiating Committee (HNC) started its meeting with the U.N. special envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura today afternoon in the Committee’s residence in Geneva.

The sources added that the meeting was headed by the HNC’s General Coordinator Dr. Riad Hijab who arrived to Geneva with the head of the Syrian National Coalition (SNC) Khalid Khoja, yesterday evening.

The HNC has demanded to practice pressures on Russia to stop its “brutal” airstrikes against Syrian civilians.

Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov said today that he doesn’t see why these air strikes should stop.

The HNC issued a statement in which it demanded the “friends of the Syrian people” to practice pressure on Russia which has alongside other permanent members of the Security Council approved UNSC Resolution 2254 that calls for ceasing airstrikes on civilians.

HNC’s chief negotiator Muhammad Alloush assured that the political process is very crucial, but it is not more important than the Syrian lives and blood.

Alloush added that Assad regime is undermining the chances to start the negotiations given that it is declining to implement the humanitarian conditions which de Mistura described as “legitimate” and above any negotiation process.

Alloush continued saying these humanitarian conditions such as lifting the siege on the Syrian towns and cities, releasing detainees and giving free access to relief aid should not be connected to the political track pointing out that the right to live shouldn’t be subject to political debate.
