HNC spokesperson: Implementation of humanitarian steps must be discussed before talks
Syrian opposition spokesperson Salim al-Muslit said that the implementation of humanitarian steps in UN resolution must be discussed before participation in Geneva talks.

Al-Muslit’s statement came after members of the High Negotiations Committee (HNC) concluded their first official meeting with UN representative Staffan de Mistura in Geneva.

Al-Muslit pointed out that the meeting discussed UNSC Resolution 2254, lifting the siege on the besieged areas, the Assad regime shelling of civilians and releasing detainees.

De Mistura’ messages were positive, but we hope to see deeds, not words, al-Muslit added.

Al-Muslit added that the siege imposed on many Syrian towns must be lifted, as an indicator of good faith.

The meeting, which followed discussions on Sunday, was a prelude to the "proximity" talks which de Mistura planned to hold between the opposition and the Assad regime delegation.
