What a bloody coincidence!

He who used chemical weapons against the Syrian people and lied about it, he who denies using barrel bombs against Syrian civilians, he who accuses them of being terrorists, and he whose ambassador says Syrians are fleeing to Europe for the sake of higher life standards, would not hesitate to commit any crime to further a certain political cause.

The very day the UN and Arab League envoy Mr Dabbi was in Damascus there was an explosion in one of the intelligence branches in Damascus. The very day Mr. Ibrahimi, a UN envoy, was in Damascus another explosion and a massacre took place in a town close to the capital. The very day a chemical weapons investigation committee arrived in Damascus, Sarin gas was used in a nearby town.

The very day talks between Assad regime and Syrian opposition are to take place in Geneva on the 29th of January, a terrorist act that claimed around 60 lives shocked the town of Sayeda Zaynab close to Damascus. To those who do not know the place, it is a regime-controlled area, fortified and fully protected by Hezbollah and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as it hosts a religious shrine, a place where a fly cannot move without the permission of these forces.

Always there is a tragic event happening “coincidentally” when there is an event politically significant in the Syrian case.

History presents us with important lessons. In 1948, and shortly before the founding and announcement of the state of Israel in Palestine which was under the British mandate, Britain banned the immigration of Jews to Palestine so that Palestinians would not be irritated by the influx of Jews to their country. At that time, Ben Gurion, the father of Israel, agreed to the British measure since the State is going to see life anyway. However, his rival Menachem Begin, the head of the Ergon and Stern Zionist gangs, managed to break his word and that of the British mandate. He surprised them by a ship filled with Jews arriving to the port of Haifa, and managed to create a de facto. Ben Gurion rejected that kind of blackmailing by Begin. He sent commandos at night and put explosives in the ship, killing thousands of Jews. Of course everybody then accused Arabs and the British of committing that crime.

This story is narrated to say that politicians would not hesitate nor would they shiver if the blood of their own people is shed when a certain political cause is served. 

As such, we may know who the perpetrators of the Zaynab crime are, especially when we know who the beneficiary is, and who has gained a great deal from labeling those who oppose the Assad regime as terrorists.
