More than 1600 Syrian Turkmens arrived in Turkey within two days to seek refuge from Russian and Assad airstrikes, the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) announced on Sunday.

Tarık Sülo Cevizci, vice chairman of the Syrian Turkmens National Movement Party, said that civilians started to flee to Turkey after rumors emerged that Assad was decisive to kill all civilians in the region with a ground offensive, Daily Sabah reported.

On Friday and Saturday alone, a total of 1635 civilians, mostly women and children arrived in the Yamadi refugee camp, AFAD added.

Operations by Assad terrorists, supported by Russian air strikes, on the Turkmen-populated Bayırbucak region in northern Syria are escalating.
