Gains of the Syrian opposition

It became clear that the US-Russian agreement on the management of the so-called political process in Syria, and the implementation of UN Resolution 2254, did not aim at ending the Syrian tragedy.

Moscow and Washington wanted from Geneva negotiations and the interpretations they suggested for the UN resolutions, to transform that resolution and negotiations into a cover for side understandings and agreements between them and some other players in the region of Levant, especially Iran that is unrelated to the political solution in Syria.

1.    Among what the days revealed about the goals of the Russian-American conditions on the opposition, we can mention this: The UN envoy Staffan de Mistura proved that unlike his former Kofi Annan and al-Akhdar al-Ebrahimi, he is an employee without ideas aimed at a political solution, implementing the dictates of the Russian-American understanding, nothing else.

2.    What matters to Moscow and Assad regime is not adding other “opponents” to the opposition delegation (like Salih Muslim and Haytham Manna and jameel kadri), it is however excluding those with a high degree of acumen and experience with the regime’s cunning. 

3.    The opposition has been able for the first time to unite leaders abroad with most of the inside political and military leaders, and the coordination among them became a fact more than ever what drops Washington and other’s taunt  that the opposition does not represent the inside. 

4.    The threat of Washington to cut its support if the opposition does not comply to participate in Geneva according to Moscow and the regime’s demands, will not change the reality. The Americans anyway didn’t brought any support in the last stage that could make any difference on the ground.

5.    Among Kerry’ and his allies’ advises to the opposition which were notified with 4 months ago, is to comfort Iran to its interests in Syria, that is accepting a safe passage for Tehran from Damascus to Beirut Airport.
